EWINDO & ITERA Encourage Students to Leverage Agriculture Product Value with Creativity

Sweet corn is a significant vegetable commodity in big cities, for example Lampung province being one of the largest producers of sweet corn. Despite the majority of sweet corn harvests being distributed to surrounding markets, there is still potential for businesses to generate substantial profits from this commodity. In collaboration with ITERA (Institute of Technology Sumatra), EWINDO encouraged students to bring their creativity and increase the economic value of sweet corn through exciting innovations at the Creative Display of Sweet Corn Competition.

Six selected groups demonstrating and creating unique products. Yanti Sari, Nilandra, Tasya, and Mutiara created the Corn Frozen Yoghurt product, which uses Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus bacteria in the fermentation process. The product's uniqueness lies in the addition of sweet corn, enhancing its taste and added health benefit. Chiara Julia Setiawati, Khalisah Aulia Nissa Pratiwi, Luthfi Nabhan Barhimat, Victorian Hgil Azizi, I Putu Septa Ariwiguna, and Gresli Nur Islam developed the Sweet Corn Cake product with various topping variants favored by consumers. Christofel Timothy, Nabilla Rohimma, Monika Melly, Afdhal Pujawis, Dita Andini, and Rizky El Faraby created the Gortilla product, which turns sweet corn into tortilla chips - a popular modern food product originating from Mexico. Muhammad Malik Abighani and Novita Lailatul Romadiyah, Hardy Pranata Sembiring, Restiansa Melarudin, Ardi Wilaga Pratama, Septi Fiani, and Zakiyah developed the Sweet Corn Cheese Tiramisu product, which replaces the cream with sweet corn extract, offering a new dessert innovation. Finally, Dwi Rahma Ningtia, Anatasya, Dhea essyta, Putri Maya Sari, Siska ayu Yunita, and Hans Pieter created the Sweet Corn Nugget as a diversification effort for chicken nuggets, which typically use chicken as the main ingredient.

The collaboration between EWINDO and ITERA does not just focus on sweet corn. The day before the event, Senior GM Corporate Affair of EWINDO, Fransiska Fortuna, and ITERA Rector, Prof. I Nyoman Pugeg Aryantha, Ph.D., inaugurated a smart farming facility that cultivates golden melon of Cap Panah Merah. The facility is also expected to serve as a platform for students to implement their learning so far about adapting technology to agriculture. Collaboration with educational institutions aims not only to promote innovation but also to advance sustainable agriculture. Moreover, all the activity and the programs aims to increase vegetable consumptions which can promote healthier Indonesian people.
